About Us

Mission

The housing market is rough. It's even rougher in New York — especially if you try to do it alone. We believe that we're stronger together, and together we can buy a home. We want to take what we've learned as a housing cooperative and pay it forward.

Our mission is to make homeownership in New York City more accessible, affordable, and sustainable — creating new communities and new housing ecologies across the five boroughs.

By doing so we will:

  • Make homeownership more accessible to first-time buyers

  • Create net-new and strengthen existing communities

  • Support sustainable home renovations and development, aligned with New York City's 2050 net-zero emissions goals

Values

Participatory governance
All individuals impacted by or involved with EcoHaus Collective are included in decision-making processes. We value direct experience and believe that those most affected by issues should hold significant influence in our decisions.

Power with, not power over
EcoHaus Collective fosters an environment where individuals can step into their power without disempowering others. We support each other to grow and lead without reliance on control or coercion.

Radical inclusivity
We are dedicated to creating a space where all individuals feel a sense of belonging, regardless of identity. We proactively support and elevate marginalized groups.

Accountable solidarity
Our mission and success are intertwined with the communities we serve. We actively work to ensure our practices uplift all, and we seek feedback to improve inclusivity and solidarity.

Climate adaptive
We are dedicated to enhancing the way we work in harmony with the environment, seeking ways to use sustainable materials and techniques to create more climate resilient communities.

Objectives

  • We will secure funding to purchase a commercial apartment building in Brooklyn, NY to house eight (8) families for the EcoHaus One pilot program.

  • We will renovate the common areas and individual condominium units of EcoHaus One using sustainable materials and techniques.

  • We will develop educational materials, informed by our experiences, to support others in creating housing collectives and accessing resources and networks.
